Happy Birthday to a Friend

I found a card online that I really loved.  The card was beautiful, and the layout was just what I needed to help me with this birthday card.  The original card is at CW Card Creations, and I'm pretty sure that I did a fair job of copying Cec's card.

I am entering it into Sugar Creek Hollow's Tic-Tac-Toe challenge.  My card actually has a double tic-tac-toe.  I have a vertical one on the left side - bling (pearls in the upper right corner and shimmer mist on the flower), embossing (Cricut Seeing Spots) and flowers (made with Cheery Lynn Designs' Build a Flower 1 die).  I also have a horizontal one in the middle row - embossing, ribbon (hand-died with Tim Holtz's distress inks) and distressing (on the edges, on the embossing and on the picture).

I am also entering it into Cheery Lynn Designs' challenge Bling It Up. Although there isn't a lot of bling, those shiny flower petals and the pearls do a pretty good job in the bling department. See the shine?

Tag trial

I was playing with my new distress paints and stains.  Not for a challenge.  Not for a class.  Just for playing.  When I stamped the quote (saying?) some of the words didn't show up.  In true "Tim" fashion, I decided to embrace imperfection and just restamped those words.  A lesson learned!  Anyways, it was fun to just play.  (Grrr.  Can't get the photo from my ipad to the blog post.  Why do photos sometimes not show up in Google +?)  Come back soon to see it!

Soon is now two months and two days later!  Here's the tag:

Happy Birthday!

Our niece turned 16 this week, and this card went on its merry way to her.  I hope she enjoyed it!

I was so excited when I saw Tammy Tutterow's blog post Discover Beauty Card this past week. Of course, all of her posts are so wonderful, but this one was especially fun.

I didn't copy her card, as you can tell if you visit her site.  However, I did use it for inspiration.  I used   my Seeing Spots embossing folder to create the texture on the bottom layer and then colored it with a combination of Broken China and Peeled Paint Distress Inks along with Vintage Photo to add some age.  The Distressed Doily is one of Tim Holtz's On the Edge dies, and the sentiment is stamped using Tim's THJ009 Cling Stamp - Saying Stuff (can't find a link to it, sorry).

Finally, I colored some ribbon and added a flower to the bow; the flower was a simple white one that I used the same inks on to make it match.  I am so excited about this card!
