I'll bet you are confused about the post title. Well, sister accused me of being asked me if I am afraid of color. She just doesn't understand that I like lots of colors, but I am drawn to blues and browns. This project came together rather quickly, once I figured out what I wanted to do. There's lots of really interesting stuff here, so enjoy!
I was able to find this papier-mache box at Joann's yesterday on my weekly foray. See the glittery leaf at the upper left part of the box (at the 10:00 spot)? Well, that was cut from a plastic box; I then added glue and Tim Holtz's Clear Rock Candy Glitter. Be still my heart!
Let's take a close-up trip around the top of the box, shall we? The paper is from a stack from My Mind's Eye called Lost and Found. I added swirlies using Picked Raspberry and Concord Grape as well as inking the edges with Pumice Stone. These colors are throughout the project. I also used them to color the ribbon; the believe sticker was a gift from sister; I added the Clear Rock Candy Glitter to it as well.
Isn't this pin adorable? I found a clearance on beads at Michael's yesterday. The pin is from my trip to Dallas; I used some metallic paint to change the color on the head. It wasn't drying, so I tried using my heat tool. The paint bubbled up and then relaxed back, making little wrinkles. I love it! The metallic paint is used on some of the rest of the project as well.
Here you can see the glittery leaf just a bit better. The fabric leaf is a snippet from a store's sample bin. Both this flower and the darker one to its left are made with coffee filters. The larger flower has Pearl Glimmer Mist, and the middle sized one (with the button center) has Pomegranate Glimmer Mist to give it an extra sparkle. I added a small pink and green paper flower with a pink rhinestone brad and a little purple feather to the top as well.
Here's a view of the side of the box with swirlies and inking added.
Here on the bottom, you can see the metallic paint a little more clearly.
A side view ... I didn't cover the sides of the top with paper; instead I just painted it and added swirlies and ink.
Another side view. I'm really loving this project! How 'bout you?
Summer vacation is quickly coming to a close. I'm looking forward to returning to school, but I will miss having all of this time to create. If I can stick to my plan to leave no later than 3:30 on four of the five days, that will give me time to do just that.
! YES !
ReplyDeleteColor. See - there are other colors besides blue and brown!!!!! This memory box is absolutely beautiful ... it just makes my mouth water!
Way to go.
